Stainless steel or nickel-plated brass thermowells, with pressure screw, for HTF ⁄ HFTM sheath probes
Uncompromising quality and safety are also a top priority for S+S accessories. That's why we use either nickel-plated brass or stainless steel for the metal thermowells of our pipe probes.
Brass is mainly composed of copper and zinc, which give the alloy good moldability and machinability, good mechanical strength, good heat resistance and good electrical conductivity.
But unlike traditional products on the market, our brass thermowells are coated with an additional protective layer of nickel. This guarantees their lasting resistance to corrosion in less aggressive environments, from air and water to dilute acids and bases. At the same time, the nickel layer prevents thermal paste components from dissolving copper and causing pitting corrosion.
Stainless steel thermowells offer maximum protection against corrosion. We have opted for VA 1.4571 or AISI 316 Ti, a high-quality austenite containing titanium in addition to chromium, nickel and molybdenum. This alloy has proved its worth in the construction of chemical apparatus and instruments, and in the treatment of exhaust gases and waste water. Its corrosion resistance also includes chlorides or salts and strong acids, including hydrochloric acid (HCl).
