Flow controller

Our flow controllers accurately detect the flow velocity in the duct, enabling reliable control and monitoring of fans, dampers, humidifiers or heating systems. RHEASREG® series flow controllers also offer a unique feature: a simple measuring tool - such as a folding metre - can be used to determine the cross-sectional area of the duct and enter it directly into the device. The volumetric flow rate is calculated automatically - simply, quickly and without the need for additional measuring technology.

Different model variants with analog output, Modbus, temperature compensation, inverter or direct display offer flexible application possibilities in building automation and industry. Ideal for planners, installers and maintenance managers who value efficiency and practicality.

What are flow controllers?

Air flow monitors, also known as flow controllers, are available in various designs and operating principles. They reliably monitor whether there is sufficient air movement in a ventilation duct, and immediately report any anomalies to the building management system or directly to the connected plant.
The choice of the right model depends on factors such as measurement accuracy, operating environment, type of installation and interface requirements.

Why are flow controllers essential?

Flow monitors play a decisive safety and control role, for example in ventilation, heating or air-conditioning systems. They sound the alarm when the air flow becomes too weak or stops. In sensitive areas such as laboratories, industrial plants or heating systems - where lack of airflow can lead to overheating, the accumulation of harmful substances or technical breakdowns - this is particularly important. Without this technology, it would hardly be possible to provide ventilation that is tailored to requirements, comfortable and energy-efficient.

Challenges and risks without airflow control

  • Prevent dry-runningEnsuresufficient air, liquid or gas supply to prevent overheating or damage to equipment.
  • Increase energy efficiencyDetectunnecessary energy consumption due to insufficient flow
  • Meeting safety standardsEarly detection ofcritical errors and implementation of countermeasures
  • Electronic airflow controllers

Electronic airflow controllers generally use calorimetric measurement methods, are particularly accurate and require little maintenance. They are also suitable for applications with variable air speeds, and often offer additional functions such as temperature measurement or digital communication (e.g. Modbus).

Electronic airflow controllers from S+S :

    • KLSW / KLGF - Duct airflow monitors
    • KLGFVT - Duct controller for air flow, volume flow and temperature
    • PLSW / PLGF - Pendulum airflow controller (with external duct sensor)
    • PLGFV - Pendulum airflow and volume controller (with external duct sensor)
    • KHSSF - Airflow controller for DIN rail (with external duct sensor)
    • KHSSW - Duct airflow controller
  • Mechanical flow controllers

Mechanical flow controllers generally operate with a paddle-wheel or vane mechanism, and offer a robust, low-cost solution for simple monitoring tasks. They are most often used in combination with liquids such as water, as the paddle can be in direct contact with the liquid.

    liquids :

    • SW - flow controller, mechanical, with paddle switch
    • WFS - Vane switch, mechanical, with paddle

Applications for RHEASGARD® & RHEASREG® flow controllers:

  • Ventilation and air conditioning systems - Flow monitoring for fans, dampers, heating registers and humidifiers
  • Indoor air and climate technology - ensuring optimum air quality in living, working and meeting rooms
  • Energy management - Efficient airflow control to reduce energy consumption, e.g. in accordance with DIN EN 16798
  • Special applications - Cinemas, concert halls, sales rooms, computer centers, institutes and laboratories where constant air flow is essential for comfort or safety.
